Models Victoria and Greg

Time to do a few updates on the blog and share what has been going on. Last month I had a wonderful shoot with Greg and Victoria, two local models here in the valley. Victoria is young, tall, beautiful with a great career ahead of her. She is new to the modeling scene and I wish her the best of luck. Greg has had a years worth of experience and decided to get back into the industry. He to will have a great career ahead of him if he sticks with it this time!

I really enjoyed shooting both of them. It was quite hot that day and especially in the evening after the sun went down, it was really humid outside. We all made the best of it and had a lot of fun. I can't wait to shoot both of them again in the future to come and I wish them both the best of luck.

Here are a few photos from the shoot.

Lack of Posts

Hello all, i cannot believe it's the middle of August already. Time has really flown by this year. It's been an alright summer but the wedding season is coming upon us. October we have record bookings in place with a total of 6 wedding scheduled plus a few other family shots. It will be a very busy month! If you are looking for photos please consider September or November as there are dates available yet.

I will get some photos updated on the blog. I've taken a nice vacation to South Dakota and still have a ton of pictures to sort through plus a handful of weddings that we have covered since the last post. Thanks for keeping an eye on the blog and also dont forget to watch my facebook page. It's a little more active there. You can join and become a fan by following this link.

Photoshoot with Luccia

Yesterday I had a great opportunity to work with an amazing photographer Joel Contreras shooting a model by the name of Luccia. Joel invited me a long to share some of his tips and tricks and teach me a few things about photographing models. We had a lot of fun doing this shoot in Scottsdale, AZ. Here is one photo from the many that were taken. Please keep an eye on my site for more to come.

E Session with Rachel and Jameson

Last week I had a great opportunity to work with a lovely couple from Mesa. We chose to go to the new Mesa Art Center in downtown Mesa, wow what a cool place. This was my first time there and we all had a blast. Here are a few shots of them, enjoy!

Day 19 - Dinner Club May 2010 - Project 365

My wife had a great idea to start a dinner club with friends and family members. Basically once a month someone will recommend a local restaurant and we go eat there! Pretty simple ay? We try to choose the small mom and pop shops or the non-chain locations to try. Today we went to the Fire & Spice Grill at the Sheraton in Tempe, AZ. The food was excellent, the service was excellent and the Suns beat the Spurs so even more excellent. We will certainly go back and eat here again. Here is a group shot of our first Dinner Club party!

Day 18 - Westgate Bike Night 2010 - Project 365

Today was a great day! I received my new Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 lens in the mail. Luckily we made plans to go to the Westgate Thursday Night Bike Night which is hosted once a week until the end of June. Lots of bikers from around the valley go here to strut their stuff. Not only did I strut my Warrior around but I whipped out the new ultra wide angle lens to give it a test drive. I'm so glad I chose this lens. It performed flawlessly in low light conditions. It's sharp as a tack and takes amazing photos. I honestly cannot wait to get some great downtown shots with this bad boy. It's going to be a fun lens and it just opened a new can of worms for me.

Here is one of the very first pictures I took with my new Tokina UWA lens. It's a shot of the bikes at Westgate this evening.

Day 17 - Airplane Graveyard - Project 365

I've always liked this airplane graveyard located in Goodyear, AZ. I decided to take a drive out to the location and see how close I could get to the planes. Unfortunately I did not have my telephoto lens with me at the time but still ended up getting a decent shot. There are hundreds of planes here. This is either their last stop or they are here for some refurbished work.

Day 16 - Flooded - Project 365

From all the rain we have had this year in sunny Arizona it has left us with some flooded roads. This is a road near PIR in Avondale. It's the Gila River and it's flowing quite fast and it's been this way for a few months now. I thought this was something different that you normally dont see here in AZ.

Day 15 - Apache Trail, AZ - Project 365

We took a drive out to Canyon Lake and then headed onto the Apache Trail to get a nice desert experience. Lots of flowers and lots and lots of bee's were around the area. We pulled off to the side of the road to search from some desert creatures but ended up finding a late blooming cactus.

Day 14 - Motorcycle Ride - Project 365

Well I had company visiting over the weekend and didn't have time to get my blog updated but I still managed to snap a few photos with my phone. Saturday the 24th we lowered my bike and then went for a nice long cruise after. Here is a quick shot I took of the bikes. It was a lot of fun and I can't wait to ride again. My bike is coming along nicely.

Day 13 - Estrella Mountains - Project 365

Today was quite chilly vs the prior week of 90+ weather. We hit a high of about 67 today. This picture was taken at the summit of South Mountain so it was a little cooler up there, around 61 and very windy. I was hoping for some rain but nothing happened. While I was up there I was able to get a great shot of the Estrella Mountain Range which is just behind out house.

Day 12 - Fugly Car - Project 365

I'm a fan of cars and I do like the SRT-4's when done up nicely. Normally they are stock or they are lowered and have a few aftermarket parts on it. Rarely do I ever spot something like this. It's got an ugly hood, ugly painted wheels, metal windshield wipers, turbo badges and just an overall fugly look to it. Since I took this at Walmart I think i'll post it at thepeopleofwalmart website.

Day 11 - Pollen - Project 365

With all the recent rain and warm weather we are having here in Arizona creates major issues for people who have allergies, me included. We have a tree in our front yard, i'm not exactly sure what kind it is, but it blossoms and drops these yellow balls of pollen on the ground all around it. This is one of the reasons why allergies are at one of the all time high's here in Arizona currently.

Day 10 - AZ Sunsets - Project 365

One thing unique about the deserts are the beautiful sunsets. Although they are not as picturesque as the ocean sunsets, they do a good job for us zonies. Here is a quick pick I took of the sunset this evening with my car in the background.

Day 9 - Summer is almost here - Project 365

Well today is quite warm here in the valley of the sun, we hit 93 for the high today. I better enjoy it while it lasts because endless days of 100+ is almost here.

Day 8 - Grillin some dogs - Project 365

Who doesn't love some grilled dogs and bratts? Tonight was such a beautiful night here in Arizona. Sunny, 87 and perfect weather to fire up the grill. I decided to take a picture of the food that will be no more! Enjoy and TGIF!

Day 7 - AZ Bike Week 2010 - Project 365

For day 7 of Project 365 I was up at Westgate in Glendale for a portion of AZ Bike Week. I love motorcycles and I love all kinds of bikes. This one caught my eye though, its old (or is it?) that is the question. It was pretty unique and I was able to snap a great shot of it before people walked in front of me. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Day 6 - P3G Monthly Shoot - Project 365

This evening is the monthly P3G Gathering, which consists of local photogs talking shop and sharing tips of the trade. We met at Tempe Town Lake and had a model by the name of Kathryn there to strut her stuff while we practiced on her. I had a lot of fun meeting new people and seeing familiar faces. Below is a picture of a row team practicing on the lake. I loved this shot so much I thought I would share it with you all. I'll post a link to the gallery of tonight's shoot. Lots of great pictures to share.

Kathryn our model for the evening.

Shot with a strobe to her right on 1/8th power with a Honl Grid, full CTO gell on the flash and camera f/2.8, 1/125, ISO200 with Tungsten white balance. Unedited straight out of the camera shot.

Day 5 - Stacy's BBQ Smokehouse - Proejct 365

Today I decided to take a picture of this ultra small bbq joint that I ate lunch at today with my friend Scott. Neither of us had been here before and we were both kind of skeptical eating there. We walked in, was greeted by the owner, ordered our food and happily ate it. We will be going back again. The building was this small purple building with graffiti art all over it as their design. It was pretty neat actually so I thought I would share it with you. For the locals, if your interested in some good BBQ give them a try, they are right on the corner of 17th St and Indian School just off I-51.

Josh and Maria's Wedding photos are complete!

Hello all! I have now completed all of Josh and Maria's photos from their wedding. I think these shots turned out excellent. I spent the last few hours in lightroom completing their photo requests.

Day 4 - Flowers for my wife - Project 365

This morning my wife had a bad start to her day. Our neighbors dog decided it wanted to start barking at 4:50AM. My wife normally gets up for work around 5:45. Due to the dog constantly barking, we both lay there wide awake and she decides to get up and head to work. Not only is today Monday but an hour less of sleep made her cranky. To cheer her up I picked up some nice flowers from the local floral shop. Here is my post for the shot of the day. I love you Suzie!

Day 3 - Sunday Funday - Project 365

Sundays are great days to relax and hang with friends. Here is a mobile phone picture i took for the photo of the day. We are here at our neighbors eating, drinking and having a fun time.

Day 2 - ASU Skysong - Project 365

Today I was in the Scottsdale area driving to my flag football game and I always drive by the new ASU Skysong building. They created this weird looking awning that sits over the courtyard of the building. Very interesting so I thought I would share it with you. There is something similar to this in downtown Phoenix of which i'll snap some day and post up. For now enjoy! (for the locals this is on Scottsdale Rd/McDowell).

Day 1 - Graffiti - Project 365

Here is an old run down house on the indian reservation near my house. I drive by here every now and again when i'm looking for some quiet. There is nothing around but this building always catches my attention. Does it catch yours at all?

Project 365 - The beginning

Hello all! Several people I know have started "Project 365" which is basically a photo a day and blog about it. I think this is very interesting and a great way to open up the more creative side of me. Please subscribe to my blog or watch me on facebook http://www.facebook.com/esimaging to keep up to speed. I will be taking random photos each day and blogging my thoughts about it. I will do the best I can to stay true to this and i'm sure i'll miss a day here and there but it's the point that counts right? So stay tuned and please follow me if interested!

Maternity Photos with Steve and Caryn!

I had an opportunity to do my first maternity shoot last night with our friends Steve and Caryn. My wife Susan was there to assist me and the photos turned out wonderful. I will post a few preview pictures shortly.

These were shot using a single off camera strobe and I used the Honl grid for most of the photos. His products are amazing!

This was also my first shoot with my new Canon 7D:

Josh and Maria's Wedding today!

I had the joy of shooting this lovely couples wedding this morning. If you scroll a few posts down you'll see a few photos from the engagement session we earlier this month and today was their big day. It was quite a success with lots of great family, friends and workers that hosted this event. This was done at the Inspirador in Chandler and I would recommend this place to future couples looking for a place to have their wedding.

Here are a few quick preview pictures from the wedding! I really enjoyed working with them and I hope they enjoyed working with me.

Light Photography Workshop with Michael Williams and Dave Honl

I just got home from a great workshop that Michael Williams and Dave Honl hosted for us folks in Phoenix this afternoon. They are two great guys that taught me a lot and really have expanded my lighting techniques. I look forward to using my new skills in future shoots.

Here are a few photos from the new techniques I learned this afternoon:

A picture of Michael Williams, this was shot at f/4, 1/125 ISO 200 with tungsten white balance, used a single strobe 1/4 power with a Honl Speedgrid and a CTO Honl gel over the strobe.

Here is a shot of Christie, this was shot at f/14, 1/200 ISO 100 with a single strobe and using a Honl gold reflector.

Lastly here is a photo of me with Michael Williams (left) and Dave Honl (right) after the workshop. I look forward to attending another workshop hosted by either of them the next time they visit Phoenix.
